Leona Skene

About Me

Hi! I’m Leona and I’m the founder of Intuitive Editing.

I’ve always known that I wanted to work with words and language. As a child, I was both an enthusiastic reader and a huge, huge nerd.  At university, I studied English & Scottish Literature, and I then went on to gain a postgrad certificate in creative writing.

My career as an editor began with my love of books. While working in an unrelated field, I agreed to take on a few ad hoc editing projects for writer friends, and I soon realised that a job in editing was a perfect fit for my skills.

I undertook professional editorial training in 2015, and I worked in various freelance roles until January 2021, when I launched my own business, Intuitive Editing.

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work on a number of wonderful books and have gained clients in both the traditional and self-publishing industry.

I take pride in all my editorial jobs and am genuinely so enthusiastic about my work. It is a dream job, and I hope I bring that passion and sense of excitement to every new project.

I live and work in beautiful Scotland and work remotely with clients across the UK, the US, and beyond. I also moonlight as subeditor at Scottish events and culture magazine SNACK.

Qualifications

I studied English and Scottish Literature at the University of Aberdeen and I have a postgraduate qualification in Creative Writing from the Open University (OU).

I trained as an editor and proofreader with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), which is the UK’s recognised body for quality and excellence in editing.

As a CIEP member, I’m held to the highest standards of professional competence and conduct, and I keep my skills up to date by undertaking regular training and development through CIEP.

I’m also proud to be a full member of ACES: The Society for Editing, a network member of Publishing Scotland, and a trusted partner member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi).
