As an editor, I work on books all day long. But I’m first and foremost a reader, and I have no problems with switching off ‘work brain’ and immersing myself in a book I’m reading for pleasure.

Recently I’ve been making a conscious effort to shop more carefully and make better choices about where I buy my books. I want to support smaller businesses and independent bookshops, because they’re so important and they often struggle to compete with huge chain bookshops and the all-encompassing behemoth that is The South American Rainforest and River Shop (you know the one).

I love the ethos behind bookshop.org: it’s an online retailer that supports indie bookshops all over the UK by giving away a portion of its sales – either to a local bookshop of your choice, or to a pool of revenue that is divided equally between shops.

There’s also the option to become an Affiliate and have your own little shop front – which is what I’ve done! Affiliates can earn a small commission from books they sell, too.

Each month I’ll be uploading new titles that I’ve enjoyed reading, and I’ll also list books I’ve worked on as an editor.
